Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers provide a more beautiful, natural looking smile…

Achieve a beautiful smile with porcelain veneers

Veneers are finely sculptured shells which are bonded to the front of the tooth to change their colour or shape, make them look straighter, minimise gaps or lengthen them if they are short or chipped. Dental veneers can help create beautiful, flawless smiles.

Why do you need porcelain veneers?

Porcelain veneers can help improve the colour and shape of your teeth and help it to return to its natural appearance. Porcelain veneers can also be used to fix chipped teeth as they are able to cover the front tooth thus replacing the chipped area. Many people have gaps in between their teeth, porcelain veneers are able to seal small gaps and help align teeth returning them to their correct placement, resulting in a straighter smile.

Is it right for you?

Anyone who suffers from dental issues such as discoloured, chipped or crooked teeth can enjoy incredible results with porcelain veneers. By adding a thin layer of porcelain to the tooth, the appearance of the tooth can be significantly improved. Veneers are becoming increasingly popular, as only minimal tooth preparation is required. They also last a long time, if well looked after for 10-15 years.

What’s involved?

Porcelain veneers are generally held into position by a special bond. Thus preparation required for teeth when fitting is considerably limited. Your dentist will examine your teeth and determine if you are suitable for porcelain veneers. If you are an ideal candidate the dentist will then remove a very thin layer of enamel from the front of your teeth to make room for the veneers. An impression of your teeth is then taken and the colour and shape of the final veneers are selected.

Your new veneers will be fitted and any adjustments will be made. The surfaces of the teeth are then cleaned and slightly etched by the application of a very mild acid. A special plastic resin is applied to the inner surface of each veneer and the veneers are then placed on the teeth. The plastic is then set by the dentist shining a special white light on the surface of each veneer. Any excess resin is then removed and each veneer is polished.

The treatment generally requires two appointments with your dentist depending on your requirements.

Who can perform the procedure?

The placing of a porcelain veneer is a cosmetic dentistry procedure; these can be performed by a general dentist who also focuses on cosmetic dentistry and tooth restoration.

How long will your veneers last?

Veneers can last for 10-15 years, depending on how well you take care of them. They are stronger than simple bonding and are resistant to staining and chipping. Maintaining good oral hygiene and regular attendance for dental check-ups are an important requirement for the long life of your porcelain veneers.
